Organic Raw Barley Grass Powder

Our organic raw barley grass powder is sustainably grown on the lush and fertile Canterbury Plains of New Zealand's southern island. Our growers harvest the leaf shoots just as they reach the turning point before the plant is ready to start producing grains, as this is when the maximum amount of nutrition is contained within the leaves. It takes approximately 200 days for the young shoots to ripen enough to be cropped, during which time they bathe themselves in the nutrient dense soils of the plains and the fresh glacial melt water that feeds in from the mountains above. After cropping, the leaves are swiftly dehydrated at low temperatures and ground into fine particles ready for dispatch to us in the UK.
Barley grass is characterised by it's abundance of chlorophyll, which gives the powder the vibrant green hue. Once the body has metabolised barley grass the ash residue is highly alkaline. Including alkalising foods in the diet can help to create a supportive environment for beneficial microflora and systemic enzymatic reactions. Barley grass powder is high in protein, fibre, chlorophyll and carotenoids. It is a source of vitamin B1, B2, B6, niacin, folic acid, zinc and chromium (see nutrient chart tab for values).
How to use
Barley grass powder can be added to freshly pressed juices, green smoothies, dressings, sauces, energy balls & bars, fridge set flans & pies, protein shakes and mixed neat with water. Some people like to take a teaspoon of neat barley grass powder in a shot glass of water with a little squeeze of lemon juice. This makes a wonderful "wake up" shot and is perfect first thing in the morning to cleanse the digestive system after a nights sleep.
Average serving size: 3-5 grams (1-2 teaspoons), can be used up to twice a day.
As with introducing all new foods, start small and work your way up over a period of time that feels best for you as an individual. A small serving would be equal to half a teaspoon.
